Dominus Gladiatus Crowd Favor Guide

How crowd favor works in Dominus Gladiatus: Liked, Indifferent and Disliked calls, two calls per fight, stones and food, favored immunity and Ruthless rules.

Last Updated: 2026-11-06

The crowd is the only in-fight lever in Dominus Gladiatus. You do not steer attacks, but you can call on the audience twice per match. A Liked crowd answers both calls, an Indifferent crowd answers one, and a Disliked crowd answers none. On Ruthless, the crowd never starts Liked, so the same call can be worse than useless.

Quick answer

Check the crowd line before accepting a fight. Use both calls when Liked, one when Indifferent, and none when Disliked unless you are baiting a reaction. Do not call at full Health against a hostile crowd; Patch notes warn that the audience may throw stones at you instead.

What are the three crowd states?

State Calls that help What to expect
Liked Both Stones at your opponent, food/help for your fighter
Indifferent One One useful response, one wasted call
Disliked None Hostile reactions; stones may hit your fighter

The state is shown on the arena card before the bout: "THE CROWD IS INDIFFERENT" or "THE CROWD IS AGAINST YOU." Read it before you commit the purse. A 40-coin fight with a hostile crowd is worse than the number suggests.

How many crowd calls do you get?

Two per match. Patch 5 standardized the call count at two, and the Pre-Launch notes describe the same limit.

The calls are not free actions you can spam. Each call consumes one of the two opportunities, and the response depends on the crowd state and the fight momentum.

A simple policy:

  • Liked: call twice, ideally when the opponent is pressuring you or when a stun would flip the exchange.
  • Indifferent: call once. Save the second call unless the first response clearly helped.
  • Disliked: do not call at full Health. The crowd may throw stones at you. If you call at all, do it when you are already losing and need a swing.

What do the crowd responses actually do?

The verified effects from the Pre-Launch notes:

  • When you are winning, the crowd throws stones at your opponent. Stones briefly stun, and multiple stones can stack.
  • When you are struggling, the crowd throws apples or cabbage to help you.
  • A Favored gladiator is immune to crowd stones, as are arena animals.
  • Calling at full Health against a hostile crowd can result in stones hitting your gladiator.

The exact damage or duration of a stone stun is not shown in the patch notes. Treat it as a tempo swing, not a guaranteed kill. The value is in interrupting the opponent's attack pattern, not in the raw damage.

Favored fighters are stone-proof

If your gladiator has the Favored status, the crowd's stones cannot hit them. That makes a Liked crowd safer to call on, and a Disliked crowd less punishing for your fighter.

How do you influence the crowd before a match?

The Work the Crowd achievement is unlocked by influencing the crowd before a match. The arena flow includes a pre-fight crowd action; use it when the purse is important and the crowd state is neutral.

Pre-fight influence is not a guaranteed flip from Disliked to Liked. Treat it as a nudge. If the card still says the crowd is against you, adjust your call plan rather than assuming the action worked.

The arena readiness checklist → includes the crowd check as a pre-fight step.

How does difficulty change the crowd?

Ruthless is the outlier. The Pre-Launch notes state that on Ruthless the crowd starts only at Indifferent or Disliked and never at Liked, and that rivals sabotage more often.

That has three consequences:

  1. Crowd calls are less reliable. You cannot plan around two helpful responses.
  2. Class matchups matter more. The crowd cannot bail out a bad build.
  3. Disliked cards are a real cost. A marginal purse becomes a bad purse when the crowd is hostile.

On Classic and Forgiving, a Liked crowd can swing a close fight. Do not build a strategy that depends on it, but do use the calls when the state is favourable.

What is the best time to call?

Call when the fight is still close. A stun on a full-Health opponent is less valuable than a stun that interrupts a finishing sequence.

Practical timing:

  • Early call: establishes tempo if the crowd is Liked and your fighter is the underdog.
  • Mid-fight call: best value when the opponent is pressuring or your fighter is below half Health.
  • Late call: only if the fight is still undecided and you have a call left.

Do not spend both calls in the first ten seconds. The second call is often the one that matters.

Does the crowd affect morale or rewards?

The crowd state affects the fight, not the purse. The contract card sets the reward before the bout. A Liked crowd does not increase the coin reward directly; it improves your chance of winning the fight that pays the reward.

Crowd favor is also a narrative signal. A Favored gladiator is protected from stones, and a Disliked crowd can turn a routine fight into a stun-lock. The morale guide → covers the post-fight mood effects.

A crowd-call decision table

Situation Crowd Call? Why
Close fight, your fighter pressuring Liked Yes, both Stack stuns and finish
Close fight, opponent pressuring Liked Yes, now Interrupt the sequence
Neutral fight Indifferent One Test the response
Losing badly Disliked Maybe one Nothing to lose
Full Health, hostile crowd Disliked No Stones may hit you
Favored gladiator Any Yes Immune to stones
