Dominus Gladiatus Skills Tier List

A Dominus Gladiatus skills tier list: Combat, Shield Guard, Last Stand, Net Breaker, Iron Body, Outmaneuver, Backstab and Deadly Strike ranked.

Last Updated: 2026-11-06

This tier list ranks the eight trainable skills shown on the release-build gladiator panel. It is a general-value ranking, not a promise that one skill wins every matchup. Net Breaker is mediocre in a vacuum and excellent against a Retiarius; Shield Guard is excellent on a Murmillo and unavailable or low-value on a Scissor.

Quick answer

S-tier: Combat, Shield Guard, Last Stand. A-tier: Net Breaker, Iron Body, Outmaneuver. B-tier: Backstab, Deadly Strike. Train Combat first on every fighter, add one defensive skill, then take the class answer before the B-tier luxury skills.

The tier list

Tier Skill Why it ranks here Best on
S Combat Damage at every rank; shortens every fight All classes
S Shield Guard Reliable shield defence; the core of shield builds Murmillo, Secutor
S Last Stand Once per fight, survive a killing blow with 1 HP All classes
A Net Breaker 70% less time trapped by nets; hard-counters Retiarius Secutor
A Iron Body Defensive toughness for builds without a shield Murmillo, Scissor
A Outmaneuver Positional pressure and angle changes Secutor
B Backstab Punishes exposed enemies, but needs the right setup Secutor
B Deadly Strike Bonus damage against low-Health targets; win-more Scissor, Secutor

The order inside a tier depends on your roster. A Retiarius-heavy bracket pushes Net Breaker to S; a meta full of Scissors pushes Shield Guard to S.

Why is Combat S-tier?

Combat is the only skill that improves every fight regardless of class, opponent or crowd. The panel I checked lists +1, +3 and +5 attack damage at successive ranks, with about 3 days for the first rank.

Damage compounds with every other decision:

  • Shorter fights mean fewer incoming hits.
  • Fewer incoming hits mean fewer injuries.
  • Fewer injuries mean more training days and more arena income.

A fighter with Combat 2 and no utility skill usually beats a fighter with four rank-1 utilities. The best build guide → puts Combat first for every class for this reason.

Why is Shield Guard S-tier?

Shield Guard is the backbone of the Murmillo and Secutor. A shield build converts block chance into survivability, and survivability is the resource that lets you take the next purse.

The skill is S-tier on shield classes and much less valuable on a Scissor, whose small shield and aggressive plan do not support a passive block strategy. Tier lists assume the skill is available and supported by gear; a rank 1 Shield Guard on a low-block shield is not the same as rank 3 on a large shield.

Why is Last Stand S-tier?

Last Stand is one-per-fight insurance. The Pre-Launch notes say it replaces Armor Mastery, survives a killing blow with 1 HP, and higher ranks extend the invulnerability.

That effect is valuable in every build because it changes the worst outcome of a fight. A fighter who would have died instead gets one more exchange, which can be enough to win or escape. It is especially important in To-the-Death contracts and tournament qualifiers.

Last Stand is not a substitute for Fatigue management. It triggers once; a Fatigue-5 injury is still a 100% roll.

Is Net Breaker worth training?

Yes, if Retiarius appears in your bracket. The skill reduces the time trapped by nets by 70%, which turns a hard counter into a manageable fight. On a Secutor, it is the reason the class is the natural anti-Retiarius pick.

Outside that matchup, Net Breaker is a dead slot. Do not train it first on a roster that never sees nets. Check the arena cards and the rival roster before committing the 2 days.

Train the answer, not the tier

A B-tier skill that answers your next three opponents is worth more than an S-tier skill you already have at rank 1. Tier lists describe general value; your bracket describes immediate value.

Why are Iron Body and Outmaneuver A-tier?

Iron Body is the defensive fallback for builds without a reliable shield. It does not prevent damage the way a block does, but it raises the floor on a low-armour fighter.

Outmaneuver is the Secutor's positional tool. It creates angle changes and sets up Backstab, which makes it more valuable than its raw numbers suggest. On a class without the follow-up, it drops to B.

Why are Backstab and Deadly Strike B-tier?

Backstab punishes exposed enemies. That condition is real but not always available; a shield class that never turns its back limits the payoff. On a Secutor with Outmaneuver, Backstab rises to A.

Deadly Strike adds damage against targets below 30% Health. It is a win-more skill: it helps close fights you are already winning, but does nothing in the opening exchange. On a Scissor finisher it is useful; on a Murmillo tank it is a low priority.

What about Headbutt and Brutal Kick?

Headbutt and Brutal Kick are Scissor class tools mentioned in the class description, not part of the eight trainable slots shown on the Secutor panel. They are part of the class identity:

  • Headbutt can stun.
  • Brutal Kick drives enemies back with extra damage.

Treat them as class actives, not tier-list entries. If your Scissor has them, build around the stun and knockback; if not, the class still works as a close-range damage dealer.

How should you use this tier list?

Use it to decide the first three training blocks, not the whole build.

  1. Combat rank 1.
  2. One S-tier defensive skill for your class.
  3. Combat rank 2.
  4. The A-tier answer for your bracket.
  5. Last Stand before high-risk contracts.
  6. B-tier skills only when the core is done.

A fighter with S-tier skills at rank 1 is not finished. Ranks matter; a rank 3 Combat is a different unit from a rank 1 Combat.

FAQ

What is the best skill in Dominus Gladiatus? Combat, because it improves every fight and every class. Shield Guard and Last Stand are the best supporting skills.

Is Net Breaker S-tier? Only against Retiarius. In a general ranking it is A-tier because the matchup is common enough to matter but not universal.

Should I train Deadly Strike early? No. It is a finisher skill; train the damage and defence that get the opponent below 30% first.

Do skill ranks have diminishing returns? The panel shows discrete breakpoints (+1, +3, +5 for Combat), so the value depends on the rank. Check the next rank's numbers before committing days.
